Not long ago, if you wanted to hide visible signs of aging or do away with stubborn areas of fat, the only option was a surgical procedure, such as a facelift or liposuction. Today, the same technology that was traditionally used for showing expecting parents a glimpse of their child has become a popular choice for those looking for a non-surgical method to achieve an improved appearance. Ultrasound technology is quickly changing the landscape of plastic surgery.
A Non-Surgical Face Lift In Less Than An Hour? Yes, Please.
Ultherapy® is an ultrasound treatment that has received favorable attention for its facelift-like results. Without a single incision, Ultherapy® lifts and tightens sagging skin by providing an under-the-skin view, enabling physicians to easily target problem areas for stimulation, which encourages the production of new collagen.
Ultherapy® procedures last about 60 to 90 minutes, depending on the area being treated, and Dr. Burgess asks that patients take 800 mg of Ibuprofen one to two hours prior to the procedure. Ultrasound gel is added to the treatment area, and the ultrasound hand piece is applied on top of the gel in order for the ultrasound energy to be applied.
After the procedure, your treatment area may be slightly flushed with light bruising, and may be sore for one to two weeks. Your results will show over the next two to three months, and will improve for up to six months.
Ultherapy® may only deliver around a 30 percent improvement when compared to surgical facelift results; however, it is non-invasive and for many patients, this improvement is enough to take notice.
As ultrasound technology continues to develop, plastic surgery in Oregon continues to offer more options that are less invasive. Ultherapy® is just the beginning of a new wave of advanced treatments and we are curious to see what technology brings in the future. There are still times in which a patient may benefit more from a traditional, surgical procedure.
