In February we tend to think of the color red; Valentine’s Day, hearts, roses, and signs of love everywhere we look. However, there is one place we do not love to see red. When we look in the mirror! There are so many factors that contribute to redness in the skin and conditions associated with it. Rosacea, sun damage, acne scars, superficial capillaries and the normal aging process can all lead to an uneven skin tone and blotchiness. Fortunately, there are many treatment options to improve undesirable redness in the skin. An effective procedure with little to no downtime is Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) followed by Laser Genesis. The redness absorbs the light from the IPL which causes lightening of the vessels. Laser Genesis also improves redness, oiliness, pore size and is anti-aging due to the collagen stimulation it provides. For the best results, this treatment is done in a series of four. Additionally, there is a laser we use that targets specific face and leg vessels. These stubborn vessels are commonly seen around the nose but can form anywhere on the face or legs.
It is also important to use the appropriate medical-grade skin care. A skincare line we carry, ZO Skin Health, has a protocol for redness and rosacea. Two products, Daily Power Defense and Rozatrol, use science-based ingredients making it more effective than other products on the market. The product Rozatrol is also available as a booster as part of a Deluxe HydraFacial which involves exfoliation, extractions, and hydration of the skin. Getting a HydraFacial two weeks prior to IPL and Laser Genesis will optimize your results. A monthly HydraFacial on its own can yield great results too and improve overall skin health.
As mentioned, there are many treatments and products that can help to even-out red skin. You do not have to be stuck using make-up to cover up redness, blotchiness, vessels, pigmentation, and blemishes. Our office has various providers that offer custom consultations to tailor an individual treatment plan to help you look and feel your best as we await the sunny spring season ahead.
