Frequently Asked Questions about Microneedling with PRP

Microneedling combined with platelet-rich plasma is a fantastic way to treat your skin. It harnesses the healing components of your own blood and combines it with gentle microneedling treatment.

What is Microneedling with PRP?

Young woman smiling with her head rested on her hand Platelet-rich plasma is packed with growth factors. These growth factors may support tissue creation and repair. Microneedling with PRP combines both treatments: the tiny needles and growth-factor power of PRP to stimulate collagen production. First, microneedling is performed, making microscopic openings in the skin’s surface. Once microneedling is complete, we’ll apply the PRP treatment to your face. The tiny openings can better receive the PRP than if microneedling was not performed.

How Long Does Microneedling with PRP Last?

For many patients, acne scars and brown spots can be removed after microneedling with PRP. Make sure you wear SPF-rated cosmetics and sunblock everyday to protect your results.

A series of 3 PRP with microneedling treatments may diminish fine lines and sagging for up to a year or longer. Maintenance treatments will prolong your results.

Is Microneedling Painful?

The needles in the microneedling device are tiny, and only perforate into the skin about 1 millimeter. We apply a topical numbing cream to your face first. Most patients report mild to minimal sensation as the device works. You may feel the device on certain areas of your face more than others. The vast majority of patients do not find the treatment to be painful.

What Devices are Offered?

Burgess Plastic Surgery offers two different options for microneedling, both FDA approved.

SkinPen microneedling is a pen like device that delivers the needle technology through a single-use, sterile cartridge, ensuring patient safety.

Secret RF microneedling is our newest device. The single-use cartridges that are used with the Secret combine microneedling with radiofrequency. This will provide the addition of skin tightening to the treated area.

While both devices can be used on their own, adding PRP to either will provide greater overall results for patients. Our providers will help guide patients on the correct treatment for their skin’s needs.

Is PRP Worth the Cost?

We think so! It’s a simple, minimally invasive treatment that uses your own blood platelets to rejuvenate your skin. Dr. Burgess and her staff will help you decide if it’s worth it for you. We’ll present the cost estimate once you’ve discussed the treatment with our office. We do accept various financing plans through CareCredit and Alphaeon, and we can tell you more about applying when you visit us for a consultation. One of the great things about non-surgical treatments is a lower upfront cost than surgery, although the results may not be as long-lasting as surgery.
