Love the Look of Your Legs
Following major weight loss, patients are often met with unwanted excess skin on various parts of their body, like the thighs. In her Portland, OR area office, Dr. Elisa Burgess can discuss thigh lift procedures, or thighplasty, for patients wishing to remove excess skin from their thighs. There are multiple reasons people chose to undergo a thigh lift in Portland, including:
- To remove excess skin on the thighs
- To tuck and contour thighs
- To reduce thigh circumference
Patients who elect to undergo thigh lift procedures often do so following a massive weight loss and find themselves with loose skin and fatty tissue in the upper thighs, as well as other areas of the body. Ideal patients for the procedure should be nonsmokers, not pregnant or nursing and who are motivated to have a better body.
The thigh lift procedure, which is usually completed on an outpatient basis, takes between two and four hours to perform and usually is a general anesthetic.
Prior to surgery, markings are made for the incisions—an incision will be made in the inner leg crease to minimize scar visibility and may sometimes extend down the leg. Liposuction may also be performed at the time of the thigh lift and based on the patient, may be completed alone if the skin quality is adequate. Finally, excess skin is removed, and the remaining skin is redraped.
Following a thigh lift in Portland, the patient should expect four weeks for recovery. Drains may be used to collect any fluids that accumulate. Individualized instructions will be given with regard to garments and massage. Dr. Burgess will encourage you to walk around after surgery. Bruising, swelling, and aching are likely, and discomfort may be managed with medication. Swelling may cause some loss of feeling in the thigh. It is imperative to avoid any strenuous activity or heavy lifting for at least 6 weeks. Traveling long distances is not recommended in the first month following surgery. Ensure that you attend all scheduled exams following surgery. Scars from the procedure will be noticeable at first but will improve over the next year. Results of the procedure are not permanent as gravity and aging continue to play a role. Understand that results are not guaranteed to last a lifetime and may require future revision surgery.
As with all surgical procedures, some complications are possible and may include hematoma, seroma, infection, nerve damage or loss of sensation, blood clots, and other unforeseen risks.

"Dr. Burgess did daughters surgery. I found her bedside demeanor completely pleasant, professional, and genuine. My daughter is very pleased. She did a lot of research before choosing Dr. Burgess and the results are amazing. Also, the nurses at Meridian were wonderful. Our night nurse even packed a snack bag for us to take since we had a two hour drive home. Highly recommend this surgeon. A big thank you to all who took such good care of my daughter."
