When you find out that you’re pregnant, you might start thinking about all of the things in your life that will change. The food you can eat, your exercise routine, and much more. Adjusting your skincare products during this time is not usually the first thing that pops into your head. It is important to know that there are restrictions on what ingredients you can and cannot use when pregnant. The same goes for in office treatments. Of course, it is imperative to double check with your OB on what is and is not safe for you individually, but here are some general guidelines below:
As far treatments in the clinic, a custom facial with an aesthetician can be completely customized for women who are pregnant. A custom facial will help decongest your skin, remove blemishes and impurities, and provide hydration giving you an extra pregnancy glow. The second treatment that is available in office while pregnant is dermaplaning. This involves the removal of fine hair on the surface of your skin. It also takes off the top layer of dead skin cells that can lead to congestion and make our skin appear dull.
For skincare, there are specific ingredients that should be avoided such as retinols/Retin-A, Hydroquinone, Alpha Hydroxy acids, and Beta Hydroxy acids just to name a few. In most cases, hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, niacinamide, topical sulfur, etc. are considered safe. All three of our medical-grade skin care lines have products that include these effective ingredients.
Remember, your skin is your largest organ. It is important to take care of it even while you are expecting.
