Beautiful and truly wondrous, bearing children is one of life’s miracles. Miraculous as it is, pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding can each take a toll on a woman’s body. Disheartened by their now-changed figure, mothers are increasingly turning to cosmetic surgical solutions in hopes of restoring their post-baby body.
At her Lake Oswego practice, Dr. Burgess is pleased to perform what has been popularly labeled a Mommy Makeover—a combination of procedures that target common, trouble areas for mothers. Reflecting this sentiment, Dr. Burgess says, “In general, my patients think of a Mommy Makeover as something for the breast and something for the tummy.” Or, put into more technical terms, “a breast surgery and an abdominoplasty.”
Re-Enhancing Your Bust Line
A woman can supplement her bosom with the addition of an implant (breast augmentation) or a breast lift (mastopexy). “Many times, both augmentation and mastopexy are done simultaneously for a full and lifted result,” explains Dr. Burgess.
Breast Augmentation
Pregnancy, breast feeding, and weight fluctuation can cause the breasts to appear deflated. Through breast augmentation, women hope to restore their breasts to the fullness prior to having children.” More than just volume loss, breasts tend to lose their natural, youthful shape. According to Dr. Burgess, “adding an implant” can “increase the volume” to create a full and shapely breast.
Breast Lift
Similarly, a mother’s chest sags as the breast tissue is stretched and elongated. No longer perky, the drooping can also cause the nipple to point downwards instead of straight ahead. When “the skin is of poor quality, it may need to be excised,” explains Dr. Burgess. By trimming away excess skin and tightening the underlying supportive tissues, a breast lift returns the breast to a more lively position. In addition, Dr. Burgess is able to reshape and reposition the nipple and areola.
Re-Contouring Your Figure
Tummy Tuck
Simply put, “having children can really wreak havoc on the abdominal area.” Dr. Burgess expands, “Often times the abdominal muscles are stretched out and the skin has significant stretch marks.” A tummy tuck targets and repairs both the internal and external effects of pregnancy. In her own words, through a tummy tuck, Dr. Burgess is able to:
- “Remove the bad stretched out skin”
- “Fix the abdominal muscles”
- “Gives a nice contoured waist”
Liposuction
To achieve a slim and smooth silhouette, Dr. Burgess may choose to utilize liposuction as part of your Mommy Makeover. By gently removing hard-to-target areas of stubborn fat, liposuction re-creates a contoured and feminine form.
