Non-Surgical Chin Fat Reduction in Portland
Anyone who struggles with stubborn fat beneath their chin knows just how difficult it is to do anything about it, even with good diet and exercise habits. Oftentimes, the root cause of stubborn submental fat isn’t a lack of effort, but rather factors outside of your control—such as age or genetics—making it nearly impossible to turn that double chin into the healthy, well-shaped face you want. With Kybella, you can finally say goodbye to the double chin, and without having to undergo surgery.
Kybella is a non-surgical injectable treatment now available at Burgess Plastic Surgery in Portland. Dr. Burgess recommends this treatment for both men and women who are unable to fully reduce stubborn fat from beneath their chin and jawline. While facial liposuction is still a highly effective solution for sculpting the face and reducing problem fat, Kybella is a great alternative for those with busy schedules whom are not ready for surgery and have plateaued in their traditional fat-loss methods of diet and exercise.

What is Kybella and how does it work?
Kybella is an injectable treatment performed in-office from the comfort and privacy of our plastic surgery practice in Portland. When you come in for your initial Kybella consultation, board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Burgess will take a close look at your unique condition to determine whether Kybella will be an effective option for you. She will then outline the details of your specific Kybella treatment, and customize a plan based on your personal situation and goal outcomes.
Kybella works by gradually killing off stubborn fat cells using a substance known as deoxycholic acid. Approved by the FDA for the treatment of submental fat, Kybella is injected into pre-marked sites along the underside of your chin for a balanced and natural-looking reduction of fat. Dead fat cells are then naturally absorbed and eliminated from your body, resulting in a slimmer, well-contoured facial profile.
How long does a Kybella treatment take and what should I expect after?
Your Kybella treatment will be performed in-office and should take just 15-20 minutes to complete. Many of our patients are able to then return to their normal schedules with a few days of moderate downtime. Most patients will experience swelling to the area that can last 3-5 days. Icing and compression may help symptoms.
Depending on your unique situation, Dr. Burgess may recommend a series of 4-6 treatment sessions performed at one month intervals. This will be tailored to the specific amount of submental fat you are wanting to treat.
This can be combined with other non-surgical treatments to help tighten the skin. If your tissue is too loose or thick, you may be a better neck lift candidate. This will be determined during a consultation.
When will I notice the results of my Kybella treatment?
You will begin noticing results gradually as fat cells are naturally eliminated from your body. Most patients experience a noticeable reduction of fat at about 2-4 Kybella treatments. When administered by a professional physician, such as Dr. Burgess, your results will appear as natural as if the fat had been lost solely in the kitchen or the gym—only you will know you had help from Kybella.
The best part is that once the fat cells are treated with Kybella, they are destroyed—they can no longer store or retain fat. With a healthy lifestyle, you can maintain healthy, slim and youthful facial contours for many more years to come.
