Every woman deserves to feel confident in their own skin. One of the biggest benchmarks for confidence is breast size and shape. Breast augmentation, also known as an augmentation mammaplasty, is an effective way to correct asymmetrical breasts, improve shape or size, and restore lost volume after significant weight loss or pregnancy. This surgical procedure helps women feel more feminine and shapely by improving their breast-to-hip contour.
However, choosing the right breast implant for your breast surgery will set the tone for how satisfied you are with the results. Dr. Burgess’ practice, In My Own Skin Medspa, offers a more modern approach called Motiva® implants. This type of breast implant is a highly sought-after, cutting-edge option that offers long-lasting, natural results along with other benefits that traditional breast implants might not have.

What Are Motiva® Silicone Implants?
Motiva® implants are designed with advanced technology in order to achieve soft, authentic-looking breasts. There are a few main styles of Motiva® implants, and choosing between them depends on the surgeon’s recommendation, the patient’s anatomy, aesthetic goals, and risk tolerance.
Motiva Smoothsilk Round
This type of breast implant is a silicone gel breast implant designed for patients who want a fuller, round shape, especially for upper pole fullness. This option achieves a soft, yet perkier breast appearance with more visible projection.
Motiva Smoothsilk Erogonomix
This breast implant is designed to move naturally with the body, using ProgressiveGel® Ultima to mimic the appearance, feel, and movement of real breast tissue. This may appeal to patients who are seeking soft, subtle, natural-looking breast enhancement with a more teardrop shape.
Motiva Preservé™
The Motiva Preservé™ breast implant is a minimally invasive procedure that preserves the patient’s native breast tissue and goes on top of the muscle so the recovery is quicker. This is achieved with innovative technology using a balloon device to create a space above the muscle and specialized techniques that aid a smooth, fast recovery. The native breast tissue is settled around the implant, allowing for natural-looking results while maintaining the implant’s position. The result is a natural feeling breast where the implant is nestled within so they move together.
What Are the Benefits of Motiva® Silicone Implants?
Patients can expect distinct benefits when choosing a Motiva® implant tailored to their desired look and surgical needs. This includes:
- A soft, natural feel and adaptable movement
- Motiva® Smoothsilk implants are designed to have a smooth outer shell with a 4-micron surface. It is a specialized, nano-textured,, smooth-surface technology designed to enhance safety and biocompatibility.
- Smaller incisions and quicker recovery time due to the gel-filled silicone, which allows greater flexibility during the procedure.
- Reduced risks of capsular contracture (this happens when the scar tissue around the breast implant tightens and causes pain and breast hardness)
- Long-lasting, natural results
- Lower risk of visible rippling
- Preserved sensation of the nipples, breast ligaments and chest muscles with Motiva Preservé™
During your consultation with Dr. Burgess, she will listen to your body goals and concerns to determine whether Motiva® implants are the right choice for your breast augmentation and which type of implant will deliver the most natural-looking results.
Who Is an Ideal Candidate for Motiva® Silicone Implants?
Generally, ideal candidates for Motiva® implants are healthy adults who want to enhance their breast size, shape, or symmetry with a modern silicone implant option. Some other indicators that a patient would be an ideal candidate are:
- At least 22 years old
- Have realistic expectations about their results
- Patients seeking primary augmentation or revision augmentation
- Are done with pregnancy and are not planning for it
Patients who have an active infection anywhere in the body or have untreated breast cancer or pre-cancer of the breast are not candidates for breast implant surgery at this time.
What Is Recovery Like for Motiva® Silicone Implants?
Recovery after Motiva® implants is typically similar to recovery after breast augmentation with other breast implants (e.g., saline or “gummy bear” implants). The exact timeline depends on the surgical technique, implant size, implant placement, and whether it’s primary or revision augmentation. However, it is a quicker recovery with the technique called Motiva Preservé™ .
Immediately after surgery, patients are usually monitored in a recovery area and may go home with a helper once they are stable. The breasts are also usually wrapped in gauze dressings or placed in a support bra to help minimize swelling and support healing.
Patients should expect soreness, tightness, swelling, bruising, and sensitivity during the first few days of recovery. However, acute pain should improve within one to five days, while soreness and swelling may persist for a few weeks.
During the first week, many patients should only feel mild discomfort as pain continues to improve. Some patients may return to light, daily activities if their surgeon has cleared them. However, it’s important to avoid strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, and overexertion during early recovery.
After three to four weeks, swelling and bruising have improved further, and some patients may be cleared by their surgeon to gradually reintroduce light exercise. At four to six weeks, many patients have recovered, and their breasts start to feel and look more natural. A full return to regular activities is also likely as long as your surgeon approves.
