Are your breasts weighing you down? We have good news for you! You don’t have to live with the burden of overly large breasts any longer. If you’re in the Portland area, Dr. Burgess can help to physically improve your quality of life and improve your self-confidence with breast reduction surgery.
Your Breast Reduction Consultation
The first step on your way to reducing burdensome breasts is your one-on-one consultation with Dr. Burgess. During this time together, you’ll discuss your reasons for seeking a breast reduction, your medical history, and any other questions or concerns you may have regarding this procedure. It’s essential that you’re open and honest during your personal session so that Dr. Burgess can fully understand your needs and goals, and then create a reduction plan designed around your unique desires.
Reduce to Enhance
Breast reduction surgery is just as much of an enhancement procedure as a breast augmentation or breast lift. A decrease in breast volume can allow you to enjoy many of the things most women take for granted, like outdoor activities, playing with your kids, and shopping for new outfits without worrying if they will fit your bust.
Your Breast Reduction Procedure
Depending on your specific situation, there are two techniques that Dr. Burgess can choose from: a vertical (lollipop incision) breast reduction for moderately large breasts, or the inferior pedicle (anchor incision) for larger breasts. Both methods use liposuction to remove excess fat before the redundant skin and breast tissue is excised. With either option, your breasts are enhanced as a breast lift raises the position of the nipples and decreases the size of the areolae to complement your new size and shape. However, they still have a natural breast shape or slope. Dr. Burgess generally performs breast reduction surgery in two to four hours under general anesthesia.
What to Expect After Breast Reduction Surgery
Breast reduction surgery will require you to take some downtime to recover. Following your procedure, it’s normal to feel fatigued and to have some pain in your breasts. To combat any discomfort, Dr. Burgess will provide you with pain medication and an antibiotic ointment to help you through the initial healing period. It might not seem like a big deal, but you should avoid any heavy lifting as this can actually encourage further scarring. While visible scarring around the areolae and on the breasts are an inevitable side effect of the reduction procedure, most women are happy to have a few faded marks if that means relief from their large breasts.
Insurance and Breast Reduction Surgery
Fortunately, in many cases, breast reduction surgery is considered to be a reconstructive procedure. This means that your insurance may cover the costs of your operation. However, there may be strict guidelines set by your insurance that you must follow in order to receive coverage. It’s important that you start to communicate with your carrier in the early stages of your breast reduction journey to see what is covered under your plan, such as lab costs, mammograms, anesthesia, and other expenses.
Thinking About Surgery? Don’t Wait!
Deciding on breast reduction surgery can be a major decision that shouldn’t be taken lightly. The one thing that Dr. Burgess hears most from her breast reduction patients is that they wish they would have had their surgery sooner. That’s because after having their breasts reduced, patients feel much better physically, not to mention the huge confidence boost and all the fun they have enjoying their lighter and enhanced breasts!
