Both methods use liposuction to remove excess fat before the redundant skin and breast tissue is excised. With either option, your breasts are enhanced as a breast lift raises the position of the nipples and decreases the size of the areolae to complement your new size and shape. However, they still have a natural breast shape or slope. Dr. Burgess generally performs breast reduction surgery in two to four hours under general anesthesia.
What to Expect After Breast Reduction Surgery
Breast reduction surgery will require you to take some downtime to recover. Following your procedure, it’s normal to feel fatigued and to have some pain in your breasts. To combat any discomfort, Dr. Burgess will provide you with pain medication and an antibiotic ointment to help you through the initial healing period. It might not seem like a big deal, but you should avoid any heavy lifting as this can actually encourage further scarring. While visible scarring around the areolae and on the breasts are an inevitable side effect of the reduction procedure, most women are happy to have a few faded marks if that means relief from their large breasts.
